Editing & Revisions

Editing

Your manuscript is a reflection of your creativity and hard work, and we’re here to help you refine it into its best form. At [Your Company Name], we offer three distinct editing options tailored to suit your needs and budget:

  1. In-Depth Editing (0.12c per word) – Perfect for authors seeking a comprehensive edit. This service includes three thorough passes to polish every detail, from grammar to narrative flow. Due to its depth, this process may take a few months, depending on your manuscript’s length, but the results are transformative.

  2. Detailed Manuscript Report ($1,500 flat fee) – For those wanting actionable feedback, this option provides grammatical editing, chapter-by-chapter feedback, and insights into your manuscript’s strengths and areas for improvement. It's a powerful tool to elevate your writing while maintaining your unique voice. To clarify, this option provides a detailed editorial report, allowing you—the author—to implement the recommended changes to the manuscript independently.

  3. Independent Editing Services – If you prefer a more flexible arrangement, we can connect you with one of our independent editors, who set their own fees. You’ll have the freedom to engage directly with them and discuss your project’s specifics.

No matter the option you choose, our goal is to support you in bringing your vision to life. Let us help you craft a manuscript that stands out and resonates with your readers. Ready to take the next step? Let’s get started! Email us today at info@limelightpublishing.com

Title Revisions

Important: Please scroll down or click here to see our Revision Policy.

Book revisions involve a multifaceted process of rethinking and improving a manuscript after the initial draft. This includes addressing major plot points, character development, and overall structure, as well as refining language, grammar, and style. Revision often requires multiple passes, with each revision stage focusing on specific aspects of the book.

Here's a more detailed look at the revision process:

Story-Level Revision: This is the initial stage where the focus is on the big picture: plot, structure, character development, and world-building. It involves making significant changes to the core story elements.

Scene and Page Level Revision: Once the story structure is solid, attention shifts to finer details like individual scenes and language. This includes refining dialogue, descriptions, and ensuring the narrative flows smoothly.

Language and Style Revision: This stage focuses on polishing the prose, ensuring clarity, and maintaining a consistent voice. It may involve improving sentence structure, vocabulary, and overall readability.

Copy Editing: This final stage focuses on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall correctness. A copy editor may also make suggestions for improvements in style and clarity.

Proofreading: The final check before publication to ensure that any remaining errors are caught.

Key considerations during revision:

Stay Positive: Maintaining a positive attitude and focusing on the strengths of the story can help navigate the challenges of revision.

Organize Thoughts: Keeping a clear understanding of the story's goals and themes can help guide the revision process.

Work in Layers: Addressing different aspects of the story in stages (e.g., plot, characters, language) can be an effective way to approach revision.

Seek Feedback: Getting feedback from trusted sources can provide valuable insights and perspectives on the manuscript.

Be Patient: Revision is a process that takes time and effort.

Limelight Revision Policy

At Limelight, we understand that the decision to revise a book—whether it be the title, content, or design—can arise from a range of thoughtful and valid motivations. These may include strategic market repositioning, reader feedback, narrative refinement, or the natural evolution of an author’s creative vision.

However, what may begin as a seemingly minor adjustment often transforms into a far more complex and time-intensive process. In many cases, revisions require a full redevelopment of the manuscript files, redesigned covers, new ISBN registration, and updated proofs to satisfy distributor requirements. While we are fully committed to honoring and supporting our authors’ evolving creative goals, such extensive production work is not sustainable without a clearly defined framework. Even minor updates, while appearing straightforward, can demand significant coordination and technical precision—far more than is often anticipated. In order to continue offering exceptional service to all of our clients, Limelight has instituted a standardized editorial revision fee for post-publication changes.

A flat editorial revision fee of $1,500 will be applied for revisions requested after the official welcome letter has been issued and publication is complete. This fee includes a detailed editorial report, allowing authors the option to implement the changes independently. Should full editorial execution be requested, additional charges may apply depending on the scope and complexity of the revisions.

Please note: if a manuscript has already undergone professional editing with Limelight and approval prior to publication, a revision should not typically be necessary. This policy has been implemented in response to an increasing number of revision requests that, while initially minor, ultimately require our team to reconstruct production assets from the ground up—diverting key resources and affecting overall timelines.

Additionally, Limelight reserves the right to respectfully decline projects or revisions that do not align with our values, capacity, or publishing standards.

As always, we approach every request with professionalism, transparency, and a deep respect for the artistic process. Our goal is to remain collaborative and solutions-oriented, providing guidance that ensures revisions serve both the author's intent and the expectations of the marketplace.

If you have any questions or would like to speak further about your specific project, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,
The Limelight Team
